The Philippines, represented by UMA Racing Yamaha Philippines, announced its presence with a bang by taking 1st place in both Race 1 and Race 2 in the opening leg of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) Underbone 150cc class held last weekend in Sepang, Malaysia.
McKinley Kyle Paz, who had a very strong showing during the practice rounds took the opening round with a blazing finish as he took the race on the last corner dash with 6 other racers and came up on top. Fellow Filipino Masato Fernando came out of the pack right behind Paz but was overtaken by the other riders but still finishing in with the precious points of 5th place.
Fernando, nevertheless promised “Babawi ako bukas” and delivered. Both Fernando and Paz rode the final laps of Race 2 flawlessly never getting out of podium position. As the lead group crossed the checkered flag it was 1st and 3rd for Fernando and Paz respectively.
With the 2 wins team UMA Racing Yamaha Philippines leads the field with 50 points in the Team Championships.
It was truly a proud moment for Philippine motorsports to have the Philippine national anthem played not once but twice over the 2 day event. The Philippines has truly put the field on notice.
The next leg of the ARRC will be on April 25-28 at The Bend Motorsport Park, Australia.
