PDW 2014-10

The Clark International Speedway turned red last November 22 to 23, 2014 as legions of Ducati owners with families and friends attended the event. Based on the annual World Ducati Week held in Misano, Italy, this is the second Philippine Ducati Week. Happening every two years, it was first launched last 2012 in Clark International Speedway and with its huge success, it guaranteed a second one.

The 2014 Philippine Ducati Week is not just for the riders as families and friends were also present to enjoy the weekend. Non-Ducati owners are also welcome. It started off with a motorcade from Taguig all the way to Clark. A two-day event, it featured various events and activities ranging from Track sessions and Motokhana for the riders to Bull riding, Dunk tank, and Henna tattoos for everyone.

The riders also get to meet the 2011 World Superbike Champion Carlos Checa, who had a grand entrance. He arrived by helicopter and was all geared up as his Ducati is waiting for him as they touched down. He rode for a few laps before going back to the paddock for a meet and greet session with the riders. The first day ended up with the Scrambler Party, giving a teaser of the upcoming Ducati Scrambler and is expected to arrive 2nd quarter next year 2015.

Track Session with the Champ

The riders were given the opportunity to ride with Carlos in the track, first few laps were easy, h was reading every corner and bumps of the track, and then sped up leaving everybody in awe. Second day was all track with Carlos sharing some techniques on how to tackle the track. Eventually, Carlos broke the Clark International Speedway lap record at 1:52:99. In the end, it was a fun event, the fans had their autographs and selfies taken, and the riders get to unleash their fast bikes in the track with an adrenaline-pumping ride with the WSBK Champ.

Manila-Matnog-Manila 2014 Wraps Up

“The adventure of a lifetime”, exclaimed one of the 2014 Manila-Matnog-Manila finishers.  He was one of the 190 out of 270 riders who have successfully rode to the horizon, to the southernmost part of mainland Luzon, and back.  But not only was it an adventure, the M3 was a challenge of resolve for man and his machine.  With Spyder as co-organizer of the event, the Manila-Matnog-Manila transcended from just a challenge among peers, into an organized, professional and institutionalized event.

The awarding ceremony recognized the valiant efforts of the riders who have gone the distance.  A set of siblings awards were given to 4 sets of brothers who, hand in hand, finished the event enjoying their passion together.  Also, a couples award were given to two lovebirds who instead of going to the movies, have gone on ’til the end… of the road.  Of Luzon that is.

Manila-Matnog-Manila 2014 organizers and Spyder Philippines's Mark Chuidian (extreme left) and Telly Buhay (extreme right) poses with Sherwin Florendo of Suzuki Philippines as he receives a certificate of appreciation for their participation in the highly successful motorcycle endurance event where hardcore riders have to travel from Manila to Matnog and back within the confines of a 24-hour period.

Honda participants and finishers got a treat from Honda Philippines, Inc. as they were given “Barkada” jackets, caps, shirts and towels.  Suzuki riders and participants as well received Suzuki jackets and shirts, and “PILIPINAS” shirts in support of our own Azkals football team, thanks to Suzuki Philippines.  It was a cold day, the onset of typhoon Ruby, and the jackets and shirts were such a welcome gift to the riders.

The awarding event was in fact not only a mixture of accomplishment of finishing such an enduring 1,200 kilometers of road, but also a somewhat sad closure of one great adventure.  But it is also commencement of new things to come.
And one of those things would be the Spyder-Motorally 2015.  See you at the grid!

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, January 24-25, 2015 — Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. unveils the latest in transportation ingenuity, the Yamaha Tricity. The SM Mall of Asia Concert grounds became the site of its grand launch where the country would witness and experience the future of personal mobility. A revolutionary design that is meant to create a new standard city commuter, it is equally efficient as it is practical without having to sacrifice the quality of its overall performance. This exclusive feeling is indescribable; the only way to really know how the Tricity will redefine your lifestyle in the city is by riding it.

DSC_0253

Built for a unique but natural movement, the core of this new commuter vehicle technology is the Leaning Multi Wheel or LMW. This system allows two front wheels to deal with changes in different road surfaces while keeping both tires in contact with the road as it leans. It provides a unique experience during each ride that is felt in every turn; any angle; surpassing the standards of style, performance, and technological innovation.

DSC_0271

Different celebrities and personalities made their presence felt during the 2-day extravaganza to become part of the newest style fad in the motoring world. The stars wouldn’t be the only ones who would take it for a spin; everyone had the chance to feel a unique way to move. The test riding area has been retrofitted to showcase the abilities of the Tricity, the track included speed bumps, wet spots, ramps, and uneven surfaces. Also present were the executives of YMPH. President, Mr. Toru Osugi; Sales and Marketing Director, Mr. Kaoru Ogura; Sales General Manager, Mr. Romeo Tan; and Marketing Section Manager, Mr. Ryan Jude Camus.

Created to fit the urban lifestyle of the city trendsetter, the Yamaha Tricity has finally arrived. The world was set into full rev when it became part of Thailand’s budding metropolis; it hit the streets of Japan where it was received with such curiosity being the first of its kind; then it was a steady leaning takeover in Europe where the locals learned how to move, live, and love. Now in the Philippines, it takes the Filipino lifestyle to a whole new level by teaching the country how to Move Like No Other. Ride it for yourself, visit your nearest Yamaha 3S Shop and be part of a movement that redefines the future of transportation, today.

Zoomed-in: The 2015 Honda Zoomer-X

10966622_1136801856364277_945338580_n

It’s been a decade since Honda came up with a brilliant design that morphed the Z mini bike series with the scooter and the result was the unique Honda Ruckus line. This was an instant winner because its main purpose was for the new rider to safely have FUN exploring the streets outside the subdivision gates (where the predecessor monkey bike was kept away from). Although the Ruckus’ 50cc engine was still kept aback from major thoroughfares, it stayed true to this fun concept that is making Honda inch into the commuter scooter market with the Zoomer-X.

The fuel injected, front disc, inverted forks, flat floorboard model now allows this daily commute motorcycle to be extremely enjoyed with impressive maneuverability in urban traffic snarls and in very attractive fashion – minimalist and most definitely, alluring. Because of its 110cc engine, Honda now offers the metro Zoomer-X riders the elbow room to extend their FUN to neighboring provincial adventures with all the underbone and scooter riders. And that, I had to check out…

The Zoomer-X greeted me with a distinct snap of its starter, which to me was an assurance of Honda quality. I took the Zoomer home through a nasty EDSA afternoon rush hour. Before long, my 5’10”, 175-lb frame was truly enjoying appropriate filtering through the tightly packed vehicles. The responsiveness of the throttle and fine body engineering kept me from planting my feet on the pavement during the maneuvers, even at momentary full stops. That instant fuel-injected response translated to a precise torque that swift filtering demands, and that made my trip home quite amusing. I was so sure that the Zoomer could follow any other bobbing bike, but not many could have followed the Zoomer’s lead. So I should say that this particular Metro Manila traffic jam was a fun jam.

IMG_9661 IMG_9645
IMG_9642 IMG_9547

I had a few hours at home to appreciate the Honda aftermarket accessories worn by this Zoomer. Gold bar-ends, pillion pegs and a brake fund reservoir cover matched the gold inverted forks. The transparent gas cover added a nice touch that was consistent with the matching gold gas cap. It also had a chromed transmission side cover to shine with. The seat popped up to its side over a utility compartment that out-rooms many a scooter model.

My alarm was set at 5am for a Matabungkay trip via Kaybiang Tunnel.

The odometer read 101 kilometers and a full 4.4 liter top up as we took off from Daang Hari at 7:30 am. I was with one 150cc scooter and two middleweight bikes. Assured of its factory brake-in, I set off unapologetic to the Zoomer engine as I considered the group’s pace. I rode the Zoomer within its 80kph sweet spot in the highways for my body weight. I recognized a 40 to 60kph overtaking range through lined up vehicles. A slightly downhill road had us running at 100kph. To confirm its balance and steadiness, a no-hands sideways body rocking felt as if there was a steering damper built-in. I moved forward, backward, stood up, and tested how body weight distribution affected its response: no problem! Highway stability for a small engine is a rare combination, and the Zoomer nailed this one. I definitely will not be at the tail end of a group ride among small displacements on this Honda.

IMG_9527

My relatively long legs forced me to move back on the seat to adjust to my personal ergonomics, and it paid off because the rear brand-new monoshock needed a bit of weight on it. A backride or a nice carrying box would have surely done the job in taming an over-excited rear suspension.

At the Caylabne twisties, I wondered if the “metrobility” of the Zoomer was as superb in higher speeds. I soon found that it was quick to react to the slightest handlebar dictation. While in body weight dictation, it was reasonably cooperative at the curves with a handless handlebar. The front inverted forks and the 90mm rubber tire height responded smoothly to my diagonal roughing up on inclined old asphalt curves. Advanced riders will certainly enjoy the handling of the Zoomer, and the confidence it gives in an aggressive mountain ride. And by the time we got to the Caylabne gate, I was half wishing for pylons to slalom through!

IMG_9888

IMG_9891

There is wisdom in motorcycle design, more especially from an institution like Honda. Usually, the headlamp of their stock motorcycle says a lot. The ordinary halogen advises the rider to ride in speeds within its stock beam, and everything else follows efficiently, braking system included. The Zoomer accommodated pushy riding through the Kaybiang-Nasugbu highway, and to where lunch awaited in Matabungkay. After coffee, we headed straight to Manila with only one stop at Batulao for petrol: 47.95 kms/liter consumption, which was excellent – considering the tightness of a new engine that was pushed to full-throttle almost all the way (which did not show any sign of overheating).

IMG_9695

IMG_9808

This 300 kilometer ride made me understand why the Zoomer-X maintains its place as a status symbol among its proud owners.

The wacky duo of Mel and Jay once again started the Sunday morning right with their kooky brand of hosting. The participants, some along with their loved ones and well-wishers have been schooled by the luminaries of endurance riding such as Mr. Bernard “Lakay” de San Jose, president of BOSS who gave a few pointers in participating in such events, Mr. Joey “Storm” Rivero, who itemized what “not” to do, Mr. Amarjit Sanghera, top finisher of the recently-held BOSS Ironman 2015 who also imparted knowledge on how to attack a protracted ride, and Mr. Francis Rivera, founder of the Motorally.

Corporate friends such as Mr. Peter Garcia of CycleSeal, Mr. David Blanco of Ahavia and Mr. Mark de Vera of Overdose Motoproducts, in a very timely fashion raffled off what the riders need the most, respectively; tire sealant for one less thing to worry about, massage gift coupons for a relaxing gift to self after riding and quality bags and auxiliary lights for a better night view. And to add more fun to the event, Wheeltek raffled off a number of shirts and jackets to the lucky participants. YKL Fujifilm set up a mobile photobooth and gave printed souvenir copies to participants.

Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete with Spyder giving away a few pairs of eyewear, a helmet, and the newly-launched motorcycle jacket, the Spyder Blaze.

Mr. Mark Chuidian, marketing manager of Spyder had all the riders’ ears when he discussed in detail the routes and checkpoints that the they must traverse in order to finish the 1,600 kilometer-run. The checkpoints are as follows:

Starting line: Starmall Prima Taguig Metro Manila
Checkpoint 1: Petron Subic Zambales
Checkpoint 2: Petron Alaminos Pangasinan
Checkpoint 3: Petron Bauang La Union
Checkpoint 4: Banaue Hotel Ifugao
Checkpoint 5: Wheeltek Santiago Isabela
Checkpoint 6: Petron Tabuk Kalinga
Checkpoint 7: Wheeltek Cabanatuan Nueva Ecija
Checkpoint 8: Petron San Pablo Laguna
Checkpoint 9: Jariel’s Peak Infanta
Finish line: Sierra Madre Resort Rizal

With the briefing out of the way, the participants are all set to take part in one of the most exciting and most awaited for events of the year, the Spyder-Wheeltek Motorally 2015 powered by Petron.

Cruiserfest 2015-19.JPG

A night of brotherhood, booze, babes, and of course, bikes! Held last February 7 at the A-Venue Mall parking lot in Makati, beer started flowing as early as 5 pm and the band started rocking right in time for dinner. Organized by the Cruiser Riders Philippines headed by Tiboys, it is an annual event for cruiser riders. Hundreds of riders from different clubs attended the event to party and to compete in different bike show competition categories such as the Best Cruiser Bike, Best Harley Davidson, Best Custom Bike, Best Muscle Cruiser, Best Retro Bike, Best Vintage Bike, and Best Vespa. The bikes for the competition were parked in the middle of the grounds for the people to view and take photos. There were old school cruisers to modern muscle bikes not to mention the timeless BMW and Vespa classics to name a few.

Food was great and beer was overflowing as the country’s largest brewery was one the sponsors of the event. Party went on until the wee hours of the morning, and it was excellent venue to promote brotherhood among riders.

Honda Click 125i Launch-20

Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) officially announces the introduction of New Honda Click 125i, dubbed as the “future of scooters”.

The Honda Scooter revolution continuous from the unique concept of Honda Zoomer-X which is the 1st scooter of its kind to Honda CLICK 125i which is another Philippines’ 1st scooter of its kind never seen before in Philippine market. This model will surely capture the hearts of every Filipino customer not only for the young generation but for the young at heart as well.

Equipped with New Generation Intelligent 125cc global engine with cutting edge technological features developed simultaneously with other Honda-dominated-scooter countries like Thailand and Indonesia.

“The Click 125i is our answer to customers who are looking for Environmental friendly Super Sports Scooter with superior specification, unbeatable features and “futuristic” design. Fortunately for Philippine scooter market, we are not going to wait for the future, but the future will be now with the introduction of the New Click 125i eSP”, says Elie Salamangkit Jr. – New Model & Accessory Development Manager of Honda Philippines.

The Click 125i presents an aggressive and sporty design with a sleek and innovative look based on the image of the new engine featuring cutting-edge technology and an exhilarating ride, while projecting a “slim & sharp” futuristic image”.

PGM-FI, a technology pioneered by Honda since the introduction of Honda CX500Turbo in 1982, the 1st in the world Fuel Injected Motorcycle is also used in this model. However, the innovation is not focused on the Fuel injection of this scooter. Every aspect that was developed in the Click 125i is Honda’s effort in providing products that delivers better benefits and exceeds customer expectations.

Honda’s dedication to provide the Joy of riding a motorcycle is clearly demonstrated in the use of the revolutionary HONDA SMART TECHNOLOGY. The Click 125i brings future technology to the present with cut-away innovations never seen before in the local motorcycle history such as Enhance Smart Power (eSP), Idling Stop System (ISS) and trendsetter Combined Brake System (CBS).

While it does not have a “sixth sense” and cannot predict your thoughts or where you want to go, the Click 125i, has its own version of eSP and knows what riders want from their scooters.

Honda’s eSP or Enhanced Smart Power is an advance engine technology that combines high power and high fuel efficiency with a quiet start and smooth eco-friendly engine. eSP technology is able to maximize the efficient combustion and minimize friction to reduce the risk of waste, and to optimize the energy out. eSP technology is integrated with the Unique Honda ACG starter that is able to start the engine jolt free and with a more refined sound, as well as the basis for the application of advanced feature Idling Stop System (ISS). The benefit of Honda Smart Technology is further optimized with the advent of technology Combi-Brake System (CBS) which balances braking the rear wheels and front optimally.

The Honda ACG starter is exclusively developed for comfortable frequent operation of the idling Stop System. The engine is started via the same AC generator used to generate electricity and charge the battery while riding. This eliminates the need for a conventional starter motor, thus there are no reduction gears and gear meshing noises… just smooth, quiet starts.

The PGM-FI built-in Liquid cooled engine boasts of 8.40 kW (11.4PS) @8500 RPM maximum power and 11.16 N.m @6500 RPM maximum torque and delivers class leading fuel efficiency of 64.3 km/liter at 50kph or 58.9KM/liter under ECE R40 testing method  *<Actual fuel consumption may be higher or lower depending on drivers habit and actual driving condition>.

The Idling Stop System (ISS) of the Click 125i is one of the reasons for its fuel efficiency. Compared to the conventional engine which continuously consumes fuel once the engine is started, ISS eliminates wasteful fuel consumption by automatically switching the engine off after 3 seconds in traffic lights and other brief stops; and when you have to move all you have to do is just to twist the throttle to Start up and Go in less than a second.

In addition, the New Honda Click 125i eSP also features dependable Honda Safety and Security features like standard automatic Side Stand Switch where the engine does not start up when in the down position, and Brake Lock easily operated to prevent the motor jump when started or remains in the idle state when stopped on a hill. Bigger tubeless tires for better traction and more secure feeling and comfort compared to other brands. Another excellent feature is the ever reliable safety magnetic key (Magnetic Key Shutter) which effectively prevents theft and push-button seat opener. The New Honda Click 125i eSP also has the largest luggage capacity in its class at 18 liters which is capable of storing a Full-face helmet.

Image of this Futuristic Super Sport Scooter is complemented by its Trendsetter LCD Meter Panel and class leading Dual Keen Eyes LED Headlight projecting a commanding “Night-Face-Image”. The LED headlight provides a better advantage for the rider through 80% higher light intensity, 80% more efficient power consumption, and longer lifetime.

Finally, the Adoption of a wide range of low-friction technologies and Excellent Combustion Efficiency of this engine ensures Click 125i’s better fuel efficiency and better total all-around performance.

With the latest technology and appearance, the All New Honda Click 125i is offered at a reasonable price of SRP PhP 87,900.00 and available in 3 premium colors, Pearl Horizon White, Asteroid Black Metallic and Candy Rosy Red with Honda Genuine Accessories in selected Honda 3S shops.
