SRFC – Suzuki Raider 115 FI Club Charity Rider to San Ysiro

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 1:  The Treacherous Trek in the Trail
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
With Suzuki Philippines, Inc president himself, Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, gamely poses with the SRFC for a camera beforeoing up to Antipolo.

SRFC (Suzuki Raider FI Cub) with the support of Suzuki Philippines, Inc, have trekked together one of the treacherous trail roads of Antipolo for a charity ride.  The recipients are the elementary-level students of San Ysiro Elementary School.

The road ain't easy.  And it wasn't easier either.  Just a little more than a year ago, San Ysiro has been a favorite riding destination of hardcore offroaders because of its hard to attain places due to ultra-muddy roads.  Good thing they added gravel into it and made the roads more travellable (if this is even a word).
The "fun" really began when the riders took a left turn right after the famous "Mang Vic's Bulaluhan"  A few kilometers of paved road led the riders to a sudden offroad.  We had to take extra care traversing the road from here as it's filled with sudden bumps and slippery gravels.  The road would've been better if there's a little rain.  It did rain, but on our way back.
Good job Mr. Marshal.  He stopped right at the beginning of the offroad part to warn riders and to slow them down.
This is actually a river crossing.  But not in the trail lingo.
I like you because you wear my favorite brand of lid.  Woot!
Slowly but surely.  These riders are carefully treading their way to San Ysiro.
Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, president of Suzuki Philippines, busy as he already is, made sure to be part of the riders' charity ride.  He seems to be having fun, all the way from the travel to the the destination.
The best part for me, as an offroad nut, is when I saw that small stream where we had to cross to get to our destination.  Many riders were bedevilled when they encounter the brook.
Oopsie daisy!
For some, this is one of the treacherous part, for some, this is the most fun.
I am truly impressed with the Suzuki Skydrive 125.  Not only it's powerful enough to take a gravelly gradient road, the suspension is very commendable. I actually had fun blazing through the road with this scooter.  Yes this is a scooter and it is a capable trail bike.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2:  We're Just Happy Just To Be Alive!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the roads roughed us up, after the beatings that the motorcycles and riders took from the seemingly endless barrage of stones, projectiled by the wheels of fellow riders, the sight of a civilization was such a welcome surprise.
In fairness to all the Suzuki underbones that I rode with, they're a bunch of tough bas%@3ds!  With the roughness of the path that we trod, I half-expected a breakdown from any of the bikes.   But noooo.  Despite the kilometers of dirty track, all the Suzuki bikes and riders all survived it.  And there I overheard someone said "I'm just happy to be alive!".
Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki's definitely having fun with the kids.
Upon entering the San Ysiro Elementary School, the elementary students were behavely awaiting for our arrival, and saw their faces light up when they saw the horde of rider coming in to greet them.
A room with a view.  I would have traded my old school for this!
Mr. Hiiroshi and Mr. Florendo amazed at the sight of "text", an old miniature series of cards depicting Filipino movies in numbered sequence.
We came to in the honest to goodness belief that we will be entertaining the kids of San Ysero.  But it was them who entertained us, with impromptu dance and song numbers, and they got talent I tell you.
These fellas gave us the entertainment of the lifetime with their almost-NSFW dance number.
My workmates for a day.  The good people of Suzuki, Mr. Sherwin Florendo, Ms. Edelyn Yanilla, yours truly and Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki.
The only kind of fight we all want to get involved in.  A boodle fight!
The place wasn't easy to reach.  But it was never about having it easy.  It's sometimes about the sacrifices we make to make other people put on a smile that makes it all worth it.
The TurbanRider sincerely thank Suzuki Philippines,Inc and the guys of SFRC for this wonderful opportunity to be immersed with the fine people of San Ysiro, Antipolo.  Until next ride!

Industry leader Petron Corporation is taking customer delight to a new level with the promise of giving motorists the “best day of your life” through world-class products, quality service, as well as exciting rewards and privileges. These brand values are at the core of the company’s ‘Best Day at Petron’ marketing campaign for the rest of the year.

World Class Products
Petron takes pride in being the country’s biggest and only Filipino oil refiner. As such, it has a deep understanding of the needs of Filipino motorists, enabling it to offer world-class fuels and engine oils that are tailor-fit to Philippine driving conditions.

Its extensive range of gasoline and diesel fuels—Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, Petron XCS, Petron Xtra Advance, and Petron Super Xtra, as well as Petron Turbo Diesel and Petron Diesel Max—are all specially formulated to deliver optimum performance. These are complemented by engine oils designed to offer the best engine protection.

Petron is a trailblazer in fuels technology. After pioneering the first and only Euro-4 compliant gasoline with 100-octane rating—Blaze 100 Euro 4—the leading oil firm recently launched a full line-up of gasoline variants that adhere to Euro-4 standards. This means that all Petron gasoline products are now more efficient and environment-friendly.

Whether you are driving a sports car, a family van, a cargo truck, a motorcycle, or a public utility vehicle, there is a Petron product designed just for you with the best value.

Quality Service
Petron’s pioneering Lakbay Alalay is the country’s longest-running motorist assistance program, which has now evolved into a year-round road safety advocacy. With its partners, Petron Lakbay Alalay offers free vehicle safety checks, first aid and medical assistance, product sampling, mobile phone charging stations, and even a free 15-massage for the road-weary. As your trusted companion on the road for almost 30 years, you can always rely on Petron Lakbay Alalay, “kasama mo sa biyahe!”

If you are going on a road trip with your family and friends, make Petron part of your journey. The Petron mega-stations along the expressways offer lots of parking spaces, clean rest rooms, and a wide variety of food outlets. These have been recognized by the Department of Transportation and Communication–Toll Regulatory Board (DOTC-TRB) as having the best and most gender-responsive service facilities in the tollways. Petron SLEX San Pedro, Petron NLEX Marilao, and Petron NLEX Bocaue bested 14 other service stations in the expressways for the “2014 Most Gender-Responsive Tollway Service Facility” Awards.

Offering one-stop convenience, you can do more than just gas up at Petron service stations. With more than 100 partner-merchants, you can withdraw from ATMs, buy snacks or refreshments from Treats or San Mig Food Ave, avail of a check-up for your vehicle, buy lubes, or dine at a food outlet before heading back to the road.

Also doing their best to help you have the “best day of your life” are, of course, the Petron service crew, who will not only fill up your fuel tank but also clean your windshield, throw out your trash, check your tire pressure, and top up your fluid levels, to make sure that your trip is enjoyable and worry-free.

Exciting Rewards
Petron Value Card, a special rewards and privilege card for motorists, allows you to earn points each time you fuel up. Accepted in over 1,000 participating stations nationwide, Petron Value Card allows you to save your cash and pay for your gas with points earned. It also gives you discounts on Petron products, and exclusive deals and promos from partner establishments.

At the Petron mega-stations, there are exclusive members-only restrooms for Petron Value Card holders. For your peace of mind, you also get essential motorist protection on the road with the extra assurance of personal accident insurance coverage, free 24-hour towing, and roadside assistance.

The Petron Value Card app, which you can download for free on your smartphone, provides details about promos and services at your fingertips for added convenience.

The ‘Best Day” Everyday
“At Petron, the customer is always first,” notes Petron General Manager Lubin B. Nepomuceno.

Petron is driven by its commitment to deliver the “best day” everyday to Filipino motorists and their families, through world-class fuels and engine oils, quality customer service, and exciting rewards and privileges to its loyal customers.

From its mega-stations with many convenience facilities and partner-establishments located along the expressways, to the small, strategically-located micro-filling stations in remote, rural locations, Petron wants to bring its world-class products and quality services closer and more accessible to Filipino motorists, from all walks of life.

All Petron service stations are built and operated to stringent standards to ensure that you get fuels that are tested and handled meticulously every step of the way, accurate volume every time you gas up, customer service that goes the extra mile, and exclusive rewards and privileges that bring happy smiles.

Ah finally.  Me and my friends have been wanting to go here.  We heard a lot of nice things about the Ducati Motto Caffe.  And they didn't disappoint. You know you're in the presence of Ducati fans if this is what the menu looks like.I'm no vegetarian and I usually leave the 'shrooms when they're on my plate.  But when they HIGHLY recommended that I take a shot at it and I did, well, I was instantly a fan.  Just not for those with high uric acid.If my kitchen looks like this, you'd never see me again.A slice of one of the most succulent pizzas I've ever bitten.  See that leaf?  I don't know what that is, I'm no vegetable wizard, but whatever that is, it adds a wonderful taste to the alreay tasty and fress Pizza.  The foods are tasty, the place is clean and nice, and the presence of Ducati's eyecandies are a welcome surprise.  The pizza is served with ultra-fresh veggies, and a thin crust so you're not eating bread, but toppings.  Coffee is always perfect after a good meal.  They serve superb coffees. You also get to see the beautiful bikes of Ducati.  This is the Scarmbler Ducati and on it is C! Magazine's Mr. Maynard MarceloThe place is quiet and serene and a good meet up place for riders.  You'd appreciate the cool and moderately-lighted ambience .  The toys are good conversation pieces, especially if you're a rider.  The Scrambler Ducati justs steals the show.I highly recommend this to food connoiseur, and see and taste for themselves what the Ducati Motto Caffe is all about.Your's truly with Mr. Binggoy Berenguer of Motoworld and Mr. Maynard Marcelo of C! The site experienced an outage yesterday, June 17, 2015 from approximately 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

I immediately got in touch with the hosting service as well as several other services we used and found out the error was caused by a hardware failure in one of the proxy nodes of our proxy servers.  Here is the message from the host.

at first we had the network maintenance you were norified (sic) about yesterday, but around the same time the proxy node that your account is on was overheating and it took us a while until we noticed that the issue wasn’t actually related to the maintenance. Then an on-site tech had to pull the server out of the rack until it cooled down, because it didn’t boot anymore. After a while we were able to rack and boot it again and adjusted the fan settings to make sure it can’t overheat again. I apologize about the inconvenience.

All issues are now resolved and the site is back online.  Thank you for your patience.

Ducati Manila Opening-32

From left to right: Vice President of Logistics for Ducati Philippines, Joy Alberto; Ambassador of Italy to the Philippines, His Excellency Massimo Roscigno; CEO and President of Ducati Philippines, Toti Alberto; Senator of the Republic of the Philippines, Sen. JV Ejercito; Ducati Asia Pacific Director, John Gaw; Vice Mayor of Quezon City, Joy Belomonte; 4th District Councilor of Quezon City, Bong Suntay; 1st District Councilor of Quezon City, RJ Belmonte; 3rd District Councilor of Quezon City, Pinggoy Lagumbay

Ducati Philippines had it’s second straight event last Wednesday, June 17, 2015 as it opened its new flagship store, Ducati Manila as well as presented the new Ducati Monster 821.

Boasting of a larger display and service area as well as its own restaurant (Ducati Motto Caffe), the Ducatin Manila store represents the new and exciting direction that Ducati Philippines is committed to in the years to come.

The evening began with the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by the Ducati officers as well as several honorable guests, again led by Italian Ambassador to the Philippines Massimo Roscigno and Ducati Asia Pacific Director John Gaw, who also attended the previous evening’s launch in Ducati Alabang.  Joining them were Sen. JV Ejercito, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Quezon City Councilors, Bong Suntay, RJ Belmonte and Pinggoy Lagumbay.  After several short but well received speeches by the special guests, the evening picked up the pace as the new line of Ducati apparel was presented by the Ducati models, much to the delight of the majority of the guests.

Also in attendance that evening were the clubs which has helped Ducati Philippines be what it  is today, each club was given a special plaque of recognition as a token of Ducati’s appreciation for their loyalty and friendship.

Ducati Manila is at 222 Katipunan Ave., Bgy. Blue Ridge A, Quezon City, Philippines

Ducati Monster 821

Monster 821 Launch (8)

Another special guest that evening was on full display on center stage.  The new Ducati Monster 821.

The Monster 821 is arguably the best Monster Ducati has ever produced, with several online reviews even prefering it over its big brother the Monster 1200.  Sporting the 821cc Testastretta 11º engine used in the Ducati Hypermotard and Hyperstrada the 821 is poised to replace the Monster 795 and 796 in the local market.  The tamer engine and softer suspension makes the new Monster 821 easier to handle in urban and touring situations which may have given it it’s edge over the 1200.  But of course everything is mere speculation and we wait till we get our hands on one before we can decide for ourselves.

Half of EDSA for bikers, pedestrians only on June 28

Check the date people.  June 28 is going to be an interesting day along EDSA.  I don’t mind the idea, but where will the buses stop and where will the passengers wait?  Sunday is probably going to be a payday weekend for some offices which will add to the amount of people on the road.

EDSA to MOA in Pasay means passing through Robinson’s Galeria, SM Megamall, Taft Avenue.  Hope it works though we need a solution to the chaos of Metro Manila traffic.

From Ortigas to SM MOA, buses and private cars on EDSA will be limited to 3 out of 5 lanes both on the north-bound and south-bound sides

KTM1190-Front

KTM already set standards in the travel segment with the new 1190 Adventure in its first model year. In MY 2015 both 1190 Adventure colour variations get a new and fresh graphic design which makes their appearance even more attractive, supporting their sporty domination of travel enduros on street. Already in 2014, the 1190 Adventure, together with its “R” sister model, has been turned into what is currently the world’s safest motorcycle – yet still with undiluted riding pleasure. I was the first motorcycle, offering Bosch’s new MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control). MSC enhances the existing package consisting of lean-sensitive traction control and ABS featuring a combined braking function with a world first: the first ever lean-sensitive cornering ABS. As ever, it sets standards in the travel segment: 150 hp with a weight of only 230 kg fully tanked combine to produce a power-to-weight ratio previously unheard of in this class and therefore delivering unrivalled ride dynamics. At the same time, the powerful, economical and cultivated engine enables either particularly relaxed and comfortable riding or, if required, super-sporty propulsion – with every conceivable level in between. The chassis combines lightness with outstanding geometry and fantastic suspension, which, together with completely new tyres for the travel enduro class, allow undreamed of riding pleasure in all conditions and whatever speed you desire, from very relaxed to very, very fast.

Riders who are still using the E-Pass system may want to change to the new system (RFID) while everything is still easy and free.

The first 100,000 units are free, as per the personnel manning the RFID booth at Petron in Pasig.  There is no fee to be paid for the sticker and you only have to load a minimum of Php 500 to activate the RFID sticker.  The stickers come in two variants, one which can be attached inside a vehicle (car) windshield and another, which is more applicable to motorcycles, which is usually placed on the headlight.  The headlight sticker is quite unobtrusive unlike the windshield sticker which sticks out like a sore thumb.

Requirements are the following:

  • Photocopy of your OR/CR
  • Photocopy of your valid ID
  • Php 500.00 for initial load

You can fill out the forms there which they  have on-site.  It only takes around 15 minutes per application so it’s really no bother.

RFID Processing Stations are at the following areas:

  • Skyway office in Bicutan
  • Manila Toll Expressway Systems (MaTES) office along SLEX (after Cabuyao exit)
  • Petron Capitol 8, Pasig Blvd. Pasig City

I’ll try to update this page as soon as I get more information,

Ducati 1299S test-3

Last Tuesday, June 23, 2015, Ducati Philippines invited select members of motorcycle media to join them in the press presentation and test of the Ducati Panigale 1299 S at the Clark International Speedway.

Ducati boss Toti Alberto describing his experience on the 1299

It was truly a feast for the eyes as well as the ears as the various top of the line Ducati race bikes were on display along with the Panigale 1299 S.  On one side of the paddock stood Ducati Philippines head honcho Toti Alberto’s Superleggera.  On the other side was the Panigale 1199 R and in between the two Superbikes was the Monster 821 which was launched just a week ago.

Trying the Ducati Monster 821 on the track.

Trying the Ducati Monster 821 on the track.

I had a chance to take the Monster out on the track and I was in awe at the bikes dexterity and stability in the turns.  Another thing that really jumps out at you when you ride the Monster 821 is the weight, this bike is really really light.  I hope to have more time on the Monster soon, on a road test, where the bike truly belongs.

C! Magazine's Maynard Marcelo on the Panigale 1299 S

C! Magazine’s Maynard Marcelo on the Panigale 1299 S

Being a newbie on the tracks I passed on riding the Superbikes and listened in on the more seasoned riders feedback about how it performed.  Everyone was blown away at how stable and light the bike was.  Engine power was more than adequate, even when set at the low and medium power setting.  The one thing everyone was raving about was the  DQS (Ducati Quick Shift).  This feature enabled you to shift without using the clutch.  As Toti Alberto explained during the press briefing, you could run up the straight and shift up to the high gears and as soon as you need to downshift all you need to do is release the throttle and shift without touching the clutch.  The bike then shifts down, blipping automatically, without a hitch.  Another highlighted feature is the IMU or Inertial Measuring Unit which allows for the cornering ABS.  There is so much electronics packed into the Panigale 1299 S that it’s practically described as “idiot proof”.

I’m pretty sure the racers out there are looking out for the R version of the Panigale 1299, but till then they’ll have to do with this do it all beauty.

The Panigale 1299 S and Monster 821 is available at Ducati Manila and Ducati Alabang.

It was a very timely Thursday hangout night in Ropali Classics.  There as soon as I entered the store, there I was finding myself staring at 2 beautiful Italians.  I've never seen them before, nor heard their name, but it was love at first sight.  Yes I was instantly smitten by two Adiva scooters, the AD3.  Regular scooters they're not.
Mommy I want one!
Windshields have their drawbacks, one of them is they block the very thing you love motorcycling, that's the feeling of going against the wind.  The Adiva has airvents to direct the flow of air to you.
The pillion would be sitting in a very oomfortable position.  I can imagine a very long ride with this.
The  AD3 is fuel-injeted, 299cc, liquid-cooled scooter.  But don't let the tag fool you.  This is the best compromise between a car and a motorcycle!  The windshield is also equipped with a wiper and yes, a water squirter!
This is the very view I first saw the Adiva.  Tell me you weren't smitten.
The shock absorbers are fully adjustable and can be configured to handle different weight loads.  Tire diameter both 13in, with 150/70 at the rear and 130 at the front.
I've had my share of riding 3 wheelers.  I'm intrigued as to how it fares with the others.
Impressive bells and whistles.  The key also locks / unlocks the back compartment.  Compact LCD panel in the middle of two gauges, where the right one is, strangely, indicates the fuel level.
Large back compartment accommodates the retractable roof, and more.
Aftermarket parts will also be available such as foot rests.  The Adiva will be exclusively sold by Ropali Classics.
Specs!
The tank has a 13 liter capacity and is a good enough quantity for kilometers of non-stop riding.  I still have yet to get the exact kilometrage after I take one out for a spin.
The underseat compartment houses a universal car charger.  No low batt excuses!
Retractable roof and neat stores in the back compartment.  It looks a little odd though because of the oversized windscreen.
As per Mr. Ermie Espeleta, the pricing would not go beyond the half a million mark.  Still a vague response as to the question of affordability.  But let's just say that it'll cost around the vicinity, it will still not be bad considering this thing got the best of  both worlds; the convenience and weather protection of a car, and the true enjoyment of motorcycling.  The gadgetry and the technology involved can command the price and the novelty of exclusivity is a bonus. I can't wait for the demo units to arrive.  I just gotta have a go with this rare Italian-bred beauty.
Very timely for the rainy season!
