Yamaha Motor Philippines Inc. continues to empower riders with it’s AT lineup of the Mio i 125 and Mio Soul i 125. After its successful integration into Philippine riding culture, the company ups the ante by evolving the already highly-innovative Mio.

The next step after the Blue Core Engine upgrade is the inclusion of the Stop and Start System in the Mio i 125S and the Mio Soul i 125S. When enabled, the technology allows your engine to automatically switch off after 5 seconds of being idle to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption and low emission. Your battery is well-protected and you can easily return to your riding with its quick start function that is possible because of the stored air-fuel mixture in your engine.

The S version also includes an answer back key that assists in locating your motorcycle in a crowded parking area; this edition also has an embossed 3D MIO emblem.

The Mio i 125S has an SRP of Php 73,900 and comes in white and black.
The Mio Soul i 125S has an SRP of Php 83,900 and comes in matte green and matte gray. Both are available in Yamaha 3S shops and multi-brand stores nationwide.

The King of Sportbikes is about to reach the Philippine shores and Wheeltek Motor Sales Corporation together with Suzuki Philippines Inc. are making sure that the preparation is set for the royal arrival by gathering two of the country’s most esteemed sportbike riders to put the most awesome GSX-R ever produced to test.
Fresh from testing with Team Suzuki Ecstar, the two GSX-R1000R units were flown from Australia for its debut appearance in the Philippines at the 11th IR Bike Fest and Trade Show. Following this, the country became the first ASEAN nation to test ride the unit. One of the two GSX-R1000Rs was ridden by Philippine Superbikes Champions Miguel Bichara and Anthony Roman at Clark International Speedway (CIS) wherein they would prove that this machine has got what it takes to own the racetrack.

Miguel Bichara is a renowned Superbikes Champion in the Philippines. In 2008, he won the Philippine Superbikes Championship title for Masters Class category with his GSX-R1000 (2006 model). Bichara is considered as an elite superbike rider who races in the country and abroad. He is also a certified motorcycle instructor. Anthony Roman also known as the Roman Emperor, on the other hand is a well-known underbone racer in the country before shifting to Superbikes. He is a pioneer in the MotoIR category of the Inside Racing Grand Prix. In 2012, Roman won the Philippine Superbike Championships title for the Novice category. He was raced alongside the legend Maico Buncio.

The event ran on individual testing and had it in two parts for the riders – the calibrating lap and the race lap which were all supervised by Team Suzuki Philippines and Wheeltek’s Service Group. Bichara rode the bike first followed by Roman. Superbike riders in the Philippine media were also able to test the unit namely – Maynard Marcelo for C! magazine, Joey Rivero of Driven2Ride and Lifestyle on Wheels TV, John Defensor of Inside Racing and Torque magazines and Aris Ilagan of TopGear Philippines. A press interview was also hosted during lunch to discuss about the performance of the bike.

Both the riders gave overwhelmingly positive comments, Bichara noted that, “ Suzuki Engineers got it right the first time. They did a really good job in making the bike very light which is the perfect formula for super bike racing. It is the most refined Suzuki GSX-R ever made with electronics that is the same with top European bike s. Power is very linear. The top end power of the bike is very good already what if we modify it? It is a bang for the buck. The brakes are very good as well. Size is shin; it actually feels smaller than the 600cc. It is the lightest GSX – R and is agile. ”
Roman who was a first timer in the GSX-R lineage said, “ My expectations were positively surpassed. The GSX – R1000R is very competitive. It can perform well against other brands. Top things that I like about it are the power delivery, braking system, handli ng and the smooth shifting system. The traction control is a great help. It is the best in its class among its co Japanese contenders and can be compared to top European sportbikes with its electronics . The smooth shifting doesn’t cause delay thus providing easier riding control. I like it!”

Present in the event are Wheeltek Motor Sales Corporation VP for Sales and Marketing Mr. Roscoe Odulio, General Manager for Big Bikes Mr. Bobby Orbe and Big Bikes Regional Sales Manager for North Luzon Mr. Philip Garcia with Suzuki Philippines Motorcycle Sales and Marketing General Manager Mr. Jun Bulot and Regional Sales Manager for North Luzon Mr. Erick Fernandez. The event was also witnessed by Suzuki Big Bikers (SBB) Club.

Metzeler MC360 Mid-Hard – MCP Review

With the popularity of dual sport and trail riding surging in the past year, the market has responded with several offerings that cater to this burgeoning segment. Manufacturers came out with bikes that were capable of handling varied terrain. Accessories are widely available for the off-road and adventure crowd. One thing that was lacking were the choice in tires.

I faced that same predicament a couple of years back as I was ready to change the stock tires of my Yamaha Serow 250 to something more off-road oriented. There was a lot of choices if your main purpose was to go off-road, there are a lot of value knobby tires in the market but when you are looking for true dual purpose (off-road and on-road) tires the choice suddenly becomes thin.

The popular models all had good tires but most of them only had sizes for the big adventure bikes, no love for the smaller bikes. The only choice was to either try untested brands or go with the available ones but pay the cost for them.

During the last Inside Racing Bike Festival, I was invited to the Motoworld press event and one brand stood out, it was Metzeler. They had the several new models on display and mixed among the super bike and scooter tire models was the MC360. A true on-road, off-road tire as claimed by the Metzeler representative. This tire I had to try.

Fast forward a few months after, and thanks the great people at Motoworld, I was finally able to get my hands on a pair of MC360 Mid-Hard for my Yamaha Serow 250. The stock tire sizes of the Serow were 120-80-18 and 90-90-21. The MC360s I installed were 120-100-18 and 90-100-21. The fit was a tight for the rear wheel. You would have to remove the stock plastic chain guard since there is a chance that it will catch the side of one of the knobs.

Off Road Performance
The Metzeler MC360 looks the part of an aggressive enduro tire and but it’s not just a pretty face. The MC360 performed well in hard pack to medium soil conditions. The large center block gave it excellent grip specially when coming out of ruts and corners. Downhill parts were confidence inspiring since the front tread pattern kept the bike in line and gave me more control of my bike. Mind you, I am in no way an expert rider and most of my rides are done with a healthy mixture of shouts of joy and agony. I think a much better rider could ride aggressively with the tires.

Having done its bit on soil we tested it on the rocky and wet trails of Sta. Ines and Daraitan. This is where it became a bit sketchy for me, for several reasons. Being Medium-Hard tires the carcass of the MC360 is extremely strong and rigid. This made lowering the tire pressure for the rocky parts tricky since I was using the stock rims of the Serow 250 which were tubeless and were without a rim lock. The lowest I could safely go was around 12-14 psi which felt like it was in the 20s on the MC360. A good rim and rim-locks would have gone a long way to make the tire more compliant to the terrain. But despite that the tires did well on the river crossings as well as the rock beds, you just had to adjust to the bike slipping and bouncing on the rocks.

The MC360 impressed me by its handling and gripping characteristics on the varied terrain we put it through. This is one tough tire.

On Road Performace
The MC360 performance on-road is pretty good as well. If you can get past the noise the aggressive knobs make and make sure that you have the proper tire pressure, the tires roll surprisingly well. Cornering was a bit sketchy when the tires were new but after a few rides under its belt they were gripping rather well on the asphalt, nothing too extreme of course, since they are knobbies. Braking performance is at par or a bit better than the stock tires on the Serow 250. No surprises equals good performance.

Overall I would give these tires an A+ for off-road performance and a B for on road riding. This would be a fine addition to any dual sport motorcycle and would be a great solution for those who ride to and from the trails.

The Metzeler MC360 Mid-Hard is available at MotoMarket Philippines.

Yamaha Rev of a Decade: The historical celebration in Cebu

The Yamaha brand had humble beginnings in the Philippines before becoming the staple of motoring ingenuity that is known today. The company became part of the Philippine culture by sharing the passion for riding through world-class products that are equipped with state-of-the-art technology for 10 years; and each year was filled milestones and memories that will last a lifetime.

To celebrate a decade of revving a nation, the only way to do it was with a grand event that the entire country can revel in. First, the Yamaha Club set off their biggest ever touring ride across the archipelago which was made up of 1,000 riders with more than half of that coming from Luzon and Mindanao. It was a long trip which included a trip to different ports to make it to Visayas where they joined fellow riders in the region and together made their way to Cebu.

Cebu City was the venue for the 2nd Leg of the Yamaha Grand Prix 8 which is the premiere avenue for Filipino Motorcycle racers to hone their skills and reach the next level of their riding ability. On this occasion, a special treat was at hand for all the attendees. They were introduced to the Mio Aerox 155, the latest AT product that included the masterfully crafted iconic engine – The Blue Core. Carrying the engine’s technological credo of more power for less fuel, the machine perfectly fits into the realm of racing prowess with practical and comfortable use. Its arrival was accompanied by Yamaha’s newest ambassador, Matteo Guidicelli, who showed his riding ability on the Mio Aerox 155.

That wouldn’t be the only showcase of the Blue Core engine. The event was also the culmination of the Be More with Blue Core Challenge which pitted racing Rivals Mickey Mazo and Romer Corbe. After an exciting 8-hour endurance race in the Carmona Racing Circuit which was won by Team Corbe; this one on one race in Cebu was either redemption or domination by either rider. After a competitive race using the Mio Aerox 155, the battle was won by Romer Corbe.

Then the attention shifted from the rivalry to supremacy as the Yamaha Grand Prix 8 was underway. A fiery competition showcased different performances from veteran riders to new contenders.

After the race, the 1000 Yamaha Club Riders rode from Cebu City to Danasan Eco Park to celebrate their historic feat. Lucky winners were drawn in the Raffle and awardees were declared for the customize contest in what was pegged as the ultimate trip. The riders camped out under the stars and enjoyed performances from Bangs Garcia, the Disco Remix Dancers, DJ Veronica Chiongbian, and one of their own in DJ Inan.

All in one day, Yamaha has conquered an inter-island trip to Cebu, raising the level of raising talent in the Yamaha Grand Prix, showcasing a brand new product, empowering through a state-of-the-art engine, the culmination of a rivalry, and the explosion of riding passion. By celebrating 10 years, Yamaha continues to develop an outstanding relationship with the Filipino community and will exhilarate lives for many years to come.

Yamaha Safe Riding Science for Women: A Mother’s Day Special

Yamaha Motor Philippines conducted a special edition of its Yamaha Safe Riding Science for Women on Mother’s Day. This was a way for Yamaha to give their own gift to all the mothers out there by giving them the opportunity to learn how to ride a motorcycle. By sacrificing most of their time for their families they can enjoy this new experience that is solely for them.

The participants had their own take on the event with some mother’s attending to develop their skills, influence their children to ride motorcycles, and to deviate from the usual celebration of the occasion. They all received roses when they arrived at the Yamaha Flagship shop – YZONE where they started with a seminar about the basics of motorcycle riding and traffic rules. Afterwards they headed to the test ride area where they were greeted by their instructors and Yamaha’s Mascot, Revvy Bear. When the test ride went on, Revvy Bear walked around the Greenfield District and offered Roses to all the mothers in the area.

In order to complete the YSRS program the moms had to go through different stations that teach them more about riding. They were taught how to properly wear their riding gear from gloves, to knee pads, elbow pads, and their helmet. Next, they learned more about the parts and different functions on a motorcycle such as signal lights, horns, and how to switch the engine on and off. Then their balance was tested before they began the riding proper. First, they experienced how to slowly begin throttling and braking before they were guided across the course on their Mio Motorcycles.

After receiving their certificates, the Mother’s were all smiles because of the exhilaration they felt during their session. They celebrated a special day and have grown from the experience that turned them into riders. This won’t be the last special edition that celebrates the women in our lives and Yamaha will continue to take this program across the country to women of all walks of life.

How to set up a motorcycle – RevZilla-Revzilla

Every motorcycle should be set up properly for the rider.

What does that mean, exactly? There are a lot of tweaks and adjustments you can make so the bike fits you right. New bikes don’t just roll out of the crate ready to sell, so the dealer makes the final adjustments and, in some cases, has to install items like wheels, handlebars, seats, and mirrors.

Why Enduro Riding Will Improve Your Road-Riding Skills

$

A lot of people ask me why I love riding enduro. They say it’s a very difficult discipline and it involves a lot of hard falls which translates to body pain and worse, injuries. Well, that’s true to a certain degree but I also tell these people that my enduro riding already saved me numerous times when I’m riding on the streets and here’s why:

  1. Enduro Riding improves your balancing skills
Ever had difficulty balancing your motorcycle during slow-moving traffic? And chances are, you spread your legs exposing your feet and boom! One of your feet may have hit something and it hurts so bad! Worse, you end up with an injured foot or leg (or more because you fell on your bike). Riding enduro trains the rider to stand on the bike’s footpegs, putting the weight on the lowest possible position to lower the bike’s center of gravity. In traffic conditions, this skill is utilized by an enduro rider by shifting more weight on to the footpegs, negating the need to put down his/ her legs during slow-moving traffic.
  2. Enduro Riding improves your throttle control
A lot of riders neglect or don’t know this, but one of the major factors to good cornering is throttle control. In enduro riding, throttle control is crucial in controlling the bike on a slippery or muddy terrain. Put less and you’re stuck in the mud or slippery uphill. Too much and you’ll end up facing the ground (wheel spin). Just enough will give you momentum and the right traction. Same on tarmac, you’ll improve your cornering entry and exit speeds with the right throttle control.
  3. Enduro Riding will teach you how to tackle bumps and potholes with ease
Ever saw that video on Facebook where a rider tried to overtake a semi truck but was rattled when he saw a road bump ahead? He panic-braked that resulted to a crash. I think you know what happened next. That unfortunate event could’ve been prevented if he had some enduro riding skills since it’s second nature to these riders to stand up and gas up to clear a bump or jump. He may have ended only with a “8” alloy wheel.
  4. Enduro Riding will improve your core muscles
Ever had that experience where your arms and shoulders feel sore after a day’s ride? Chances are, you are putting so much weight on the handle bar resulting to poor bike handling and sore muscles. The key to enduro riding are your core muscles. You will use them for balancing, maneuvering, lifting the bike and many more, putting less stress on your arms and shoulders. It’s also good for those who are into endurance riding – less stress on the arms, less time resting them.
  5. Enduro Riding will teach you how to control your bike during wet or slippery riding conditions
Enduro riding involves a lot, and I mean A LOT of slippery straight, uphill and downhill sections which will be made worse when it rains. Proper body position, weight transfer and throttle control will allow you to control your bike during these situations. On the road when you encounter an oil spill or loose gravel, muscle memory will take over and you’ll be able to control your bike with ease and not end up with an injury.
  6. Enduro Riding will teach you to be humble
Let’s face it, there are also a lot of motorcycle riders out there that give respect to a fellow rider based on that rider’s motorcycle. If that rider rides a fancy bike, hands down. If that rider rides a not-so-fancy bike, screw him! Sad but true. Not on enduro riding. No matter how expensive your bike is, it all boils down to the rider and every one of us had our fair share of dirt and mud on our faces. No politics, no gossips, no “mine’s better than him yada yada” sort of thing. It’s just pure fun enduro riding!

May 20~21, 2017, Antipolo, Rizal – The Gen-S energy blasted as the riders from Honda and other brands released the spirit of youthfulness and fun as they interact from various Clubs and showed camaraderie with their newfound riders whom they shared their common interest, the Gen-S Fun!

6 Teams, 14 Games, 400 Participants, all Gen-S Riders gathered in one place to experience the true Gen-S Spirit and explored newfound set of friends from the circle of Honda family in the 2nd year of the Honda Gen-S Pride Ride for Luzon Leg in Boso-Boso Highland Resort in Antipolo, Rizal.

Riders assembled in HSDC to have their pre-ride rituals: Invocation, flag raising, Radio Exercise, and HPI’s standard reminder of road safety from Ms. Carol Andal of Safety Riding Promotions Dept. Traversing C6 from HSDC, Riders arrived the venue in surprisingly an hour, and were welcomed by drumbeaters and fire dancers to provide the atmosphere of fun.

During lunch, all Club Rider President/ Officers were able to meet and greet HPI’s President Mr. Daiki Mihara, for the first time. Each expressed their appreciation while Mr. Mihara shared great news about Honda’s plans – this chance was much appreciated by the Club Officers.

Riders piled up at the Test Ride area to feel the Gen-S ride, and from 2PM to 6PM, Riders were divided among groups, each to their own set of games with strategies, teamwork, and passion. Enduring the pain, everyone was eager to win each game. And finally, the top three teams surpassed 6 other teams: 3rd place went to Blue, 2nd to Red, and 1st to Green Team.

Everyone was excited the whole day, and to add more of the Gen-S experience, additional knowledge about PGM-FI was shared; while the launching of the BeAT orange and band entertainment stimulated the Gen-S energy.

The second day was concluded with recognition from each Clubs’ effort while ideas from various clubs were also given importance.

It was rewarding to witness Riders enjoy and offer their support to Honda as we all have one objective: Increase the Gen-S Tribe!

Building Motorcycles for the Filipino and the ASEAN Market
KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing, Inc. (KAMMI), a jointventure partnership between Adventure Cycle Philippines, Inc., owned by AC Industrial Technology Holdings, Inc. (AC Industrials), a member of Ayala Group of Companies, and Austrian motorcycle giant KTM AG (Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen AG), inaugurates its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at the Laguna Technopark in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The KTM Philippines plant – which assembles four (4) KTM models such as the KTM 200 DUKE, KTM 390 DUKE, KTM RC 200 and KTM RC 390 – will have an initial production run of 6,000 motorcycles, with the goal of eventually expanding to 10,000 units annually. Apart from the domestic market, KAMMI plans to export to neighboring ASEAN markets as well as China, where some 60 million motorcycles are sold per year.

Art Tan, AC Industrials CEO, disclosed that the Ayala group’s foray into motorcycle assembly is in line with the company’s push in bolstering its growing manufacturing portfolio. “We are further expanding our capabilities as part of our thrust of fostering synergies with Ayala companies,” Tan said. “Combining the competencies of our manufacturing and distribution arms allows us to scale our presence in this space, taking advantage of evolving movements in technology, automation, and industrial technology.”

Meanwhile, Dino Santos, KAMMI’s President and COO, extolled the impact the plant’s opening has to Filipinos and the Philippine economy. “This investment is part of our belief that manufacturing should be a key driver of our country’s inclusive growth going forward,” he explained. “It provides jobs, supply chain opportunities, and helps put the country in the map as a center for innovation and industrialization.”

Moreover, they hope to ramp up their network to 32 dealers nationwide this year, each one providing sales and aftersales support.

With this development, AC Industrials–which consolidates the Ayala Groups automotive and manufacturing segments — seeks to play a bigger role in manufacturing and contribute to the country’s rise as a Southeast Asian (ASEAN) industrial hub. Furthermore, this bold move is deemed a milestone not only in the Ayala Group’s history, but for the country as well.
