The Rebel remained relatively unchanged for 32 years while it introduced countless riders to the world of motorcycling. In today’s climate of stagnant sales and a waning interest in the world of two wheels in the United States, manufacturers are doing whatever they can to attract new riders to the sport. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Honda has revamped this pint-sized staple in their lineup.

Back-to-Back Victories for Team Suzuki Pilipinas as SAC 2017 Season Begins

It is a back to back victory for Team Suzuki Pilipinas as the Suzuki Asian Challenge (SAC) 2017 season begins at Johor International Circuit in Malaysia. Both Race 1 and 2 saw Team Suzuki Pilipinas riders Mario Borbon Jr. and April King Mascardo grabbing the top place making history once more by having the Philippine national anthem played for the first time at the said racetrack as well as achieving a grand slam win for the country at SAC Round 1.
April King Mascardo, Eane Jay Sobretodo and Mario Borbon Jr. returned at the SAC tracks to show how much they have improved over the years. A Suzuki developmental program, SAC is a one make race competition among nations aiming to hone young riders to be MotoGP racers. The 2017 SAC season sees 16 riders from 9 countries – Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Showing optimism from the very beginning, Team Suzuki Pilipinas already gave promising performances by clinching the pole position at the qualifying race. Mindanao rider April King Mascardo got the pole with the fastest lap time of 1’57.66 breaking last year’s record by less than 2s. Following him on third spot was Luzon rider Eane Jay Sobretodo. Later on Race 1, Visayas rider Mario Borbon, Jr. managed to stay on the lead on the last laps despite the slippery and wet track condition, hence grabbing the 1st top podium win of the season.

During Race 2, Mascardo and Sobretodo were alternately leading on the first laps of the race. However, Sobretodo collided with the other riders during the middle part giving chance to leading Mascardo to isolate himself and continuously led the race. Mascardo’s win gave Team Suzuki PIlipinas their first back-to-back victory at the SAC history!

The boys made yet another history for the country not only by having the Philippine national anthem played at the Johos Circuit for the very first time but also playing it for two consecutive days in a single race series.
This is truly going to be an exciting season for Team Suzuki PIlipinas. All Suzuki fans are hopeful that the team will consistently make it to the top for the rest of the season and bring the Championship title to the Philippines. Keep track of our heroes’ journey at the SAC at Round 2 at Chang International Circuit, Thailand on April 14 to 15, Round 3 at Suzuka International Circuit, Japan on June 3 to 4, Round 4 at Sentul Inetrnational Circuit, Indonesia on August 12 to 13 and the final round Chang International Circuit, Thailand on December 2 to 3.

Maverick Vinales won his second successive race on the Movistar Yamaha in Argentina as reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez dramatically slid out of the lead.

Why some riders are downsizing to smaller motorcycles – RevZilla

Probably my favorite bike I ever owned was a 1996 Harley-Davidson Road King I purchased new and rode coast to coast. But when I look at my garage and everything that’s been in it for the past decade, I realize that I’ve been gravitating towards smaller bikes and I started to wonder why.

While asking this question of myself, I came up with some of the same answers that Jonathan Krause touched on when he wrote about downsizing to a KTM 390 Duke. Smaller bikes can be cheaper to buy or own and there’s that oft

Thousands of riders gathered at the brightest booth – the Suzuki Hub, during the 11th Inside Racing Bike Fest and Trade Show (IRBFXI) last March 24 to 26 at the World Trade Center Manila. Filled with the brand’s latest offerings to the riders, the Suzuki Hub was one of the favourite destinations of the guests during the well-coveted annual event.

Motorcycle aficionados visited the sleek and elegant looking booth adorned by a LED bar with the text Suzuki Next 100 signifying Suzuki’s upcoming centennial year. This also means Suzuki’s commitment to provide customers with new surprises and excitement while perfectly matching the pace of each driver’s lifestyle. That even before the Japanese giant reaches its 100th year; it has already started building the future of mobility for all.

Suzuki kicked off the 3-day bike festival through a dramatic and powerful lights and sound show lead by President Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Managing Director Mr. Norminio Mojica, Motorcycle Sales and Marketing General Manager Mr. Jun Bulot and Motorcycle Marketing Head Mr. Monch Bontogon joined by the man behind IRBFXI, Mr. Al Camba. Making the event more special were the faces of Suzuki, Para sa Lahat ng Trip Mo campaign Ms. Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil who presented a song number and played games with the lucky fans.

One of the highlights of the Suzuki Hub was the launch of the GSX-R1000R in the country. Considered as the King of Sportsbikes, it is culmination of more than 30 years of GSX-R heritage, performance, innovation, domination and unmatched value. Now, the King is definitely back to own the racetrack. Another exciting addition is Suzuki’s go-anywhere dream machine – the SV650A with features built for each rider’s fun and excitement which already captured the hearts of the media and enthusiasts alike even at first look.

Suzuki extends this excitement to its line-up of equally charming and performance small bikes with the very extensive colour variations of the global scooter Address. Part of Suzuki, Para sa Lahat ng Trip Mo campaign, the brand aims to address the very dynamic lifestyle of the young generation. And with this new addition to the already colourful line up of Smash Fashion Colors, Suzuki will not only provide them with a riding companion but one that will also help them express themselves more. Attesting to this, endorsers Liza and Enrique noted that the youth right now or the millenials have very active lifestyle which required for. What they need is one that is functional, trustworthy and stylish – a motorcycle that can be an extension of themselves. And they get exactly this with Suzuki’s superior quality coupled with the updated look of both the Smash and Address.

When we say Suzuki excitement, there of course shall be the thrill on the racetrack. The brand also presented this year’s Team Suzuki Pilipinas for the Suzuki Asian Challenge 2017 comprised of the country’s last season heroes – Eane Jaye Sobretodo for Luzon, Mario Borbon Jr. for Visayas and April King Mascardo for Mindanao. Completing the product line-up are the handsome Smash Matte Black Premium edition as well as the Underbone King Raider R150.

Suzuki completed the excitement with the presence of Suzuki ladies who were all around the hub to assist the guests while the lovely Ms. Dianne Medina and Ms. Roxee B. hosted during the Suzuki segments. Suzuki President Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki also gave a very entertaining dance number with the Whiplash.

The GSX-R1000R, SV650A, Address Fashion Colors and Smash Premium Matte Black Edition will be available in the coming months.

An ode to (not a review of) the BMW R 1200 GS – RevZilla

I hit a stretch of evening commute traffic, and spent the time trying out BMW’s DTC (wheelie control). It works perfectly. Hammer the throttle, loft the wheel 10 inches, and then the BMW will set you politely — but firmly — back on the ground, letting you know you’re being an asshole. An asshole with great credit and a penchant for items that work really well, but an asshole nonetheless. Mrs. Lemmy would like this, because she always has to tell me I’m an asshole the old-fashioned analog way. I turned the w

Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer first ride review – RevZilla

In my opinion, the Scrambler Café Racer is visually one of the most distinct in personality of the bunch. Upon first approach, the machine encompasses all the essentials of a modern café racer. Most notable is the short flyscreen, clip-on handlebars, café racer seat, number plate, black coffee paint color and gold wheels. As soon as you climb on board, you could easily imagine yourself back in the 1960s in an all-out race amongst the Ton-Up Boys of London.

Team Suzuki Pilipinas had it again at the 2017 Suzuki Asian Challenge (SAC) Round 2 after taking home another top podium win at Chang International Circuit. After getting a back to back win during the Round 1 in Malaysia, the team was on it once more by giving the country its 3rd top finish. April King Mascardo took home the top spot just a few weeks after his powerful performance at the previous round which landed him in pole position and a 1st place finish at Race 1. Cebu’s pride Mario Borbon Jr. on the hand dominated the Race 1 of Round 1.

Starting on 5th grid, April strategically managed to stay at the right position over the other riders on the first laps then focused on following the leader of the race. When he got the perfect timing to lead the pack, he made sure he to secure the lead until the final lap. His exceptional performance outstood the other riders including the Thai and SAC Class of 2015 2nd placer Patis Chooprathet.

Race 2 was a tight battle for all of the riders especially for Team Suzuki Pilipinas’ Eane Jay Sobretodo and April King Mascardo who were leading the pack. Sobretodo unfortunately crashed while leading the 4th lap after an accidental hit by another rider causing him to not finish the race. During the last lap at the final corner of the race, one rider fell affecting the six riders on his trail including Borbon, Jr. and Mascardo. Even after the series of crashes, Mascardo finished 5th and Borbon made it at 12th place.

After the Round 2, Team Suzuki Pilipinas managed to retain their good standing. Mascardo remains at the top spot, Borbon Jr. at 7th with 42 points with Sobretodo at 11th place. Despite the series of crashes, nothing serious happened to team and they are more than determined to face the next round of the challenge which will happen at Suzuka International Circuit in Japan on June 2 to 4, 2017.

IR News: Alberto finishes his first Italian SBK race in Imola

Photo from Ducati.com

Filipino TJ Alberto registered his first race finish in Race 2 of the 2017 FIM CIV (Italian National Superbike Championships) held at the famed Imola Circuit  today April 23. He is one of the riders of Italian Ducati factory Moto Corsa Team. He is racing with an Italian FIM license.

In Race 1 yesterday, after qualifying in 24th position, Alberto was battling for 18th by lap three when he lowsided and crashed. It was Alberto’s first time to race in Imola.

For today’s Race 2, Alberto said that he will focus on just trying to reach the chequered flag and finish one for the country. On the first lap he succesfully avoided a melee that saw at least six riders crashing when a rider blew up his engine and spewed oil on the track. On the restart, after again starting from 24th he moved up to 22nd by lap 2 and was up to 18th place once again when his gearbox broke. He pitted for repairs and rejoined be race to finish 23rd 2 laps down. He was lapping consistently and mainating a good pace despite the fact that the race was  the longest in his entire racing career (our national races are much shorter).

Even with the mechanical mishap, Alberto still made history whenn he crossed the line as being the first Filipino to record a race finish in the CIV. The proud  father Toti Alberto was mixed emotions after the race. Elated that an Alberto has made a mark in a European race but also a little sad about the mechanical mishap  because he knows his son could’ve placed higher given that his laptimes were just over a second slower than the winners.

The mere fact that Alberto is racing in Europe is already an anchievement for a Filipino given the debacle that he and his team had to face in securing him a license.

TJ Alberto is the first Filipino to race in an international European SBK race and was also the only Asian out of 35 riders which included former riders from MotoGP, World Superbike and  World Supersport.  The top 15 riders all have world championship racing experience with the likes of Lanzi, Goi and Zanetti .

The next round of the CIV will be in Misano, a track where TJ made an impression during testing and actually won a race a month ago. With track familiarity and the confidence of a race finish in his pocket, Alberto will hope do do better.
A big congratulations to Ducati Philippines and the Alberto family!

BMW are about to unleash a powerful new F850GS in a bid to blow the fast-selling Afrcia Twin and Multistrada 950 into the weeds. With adventure bike sales still strong, one of the key growth areas is the sub-1000cc sector. With more bikes in this competitive category expected at the end of 2017 – such as a production version of Yamaha’s MT-07-based T7 concept – it’s little surprise that BMW appear to have created an all-new and much sharper version of the F800GS.

What the hell is Kawasaki’s new Versys-X 300?

That seems to be the most echoed question surrounding this bike. I’ve heard from riders wanting to know if it is a dual-sport or an adventure bike. Can it replace their KLR650 or go toe-to-toe with any of the modern ADV machines already on the market? Others had questions about its off-road prowess or its long-road touring capabilities.

I’m not gonna’ lie to you; I had some sleepless nights before the launch of Suzuki’s 2017 GSX-R1000 model at Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

I mean, when Lance asked me if I wanted to attend for Common Tread, “Yes!” was a knee-jerk response. After all, this is the model that Yoshimura Suzuki started out with, when they built the bikes that Toni Elias and Roger Hayden used to dominate the first MotoAmerica race weekend.
